Raised and educated in Sydney, I graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor's degree in English literature.
My writing career began as a journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald, one of Australia's most popular newspapers. A move to Queensland's Gold Coast in 1991 saw me take up a media relations role for the Queensland Government. In the latter half of the 1990s, I freelanced for a range of magazines while grappling with the demands of motherhood.
A year-long caravan trip around Australia in 1999 with my photographer husband Steve, and our then two and four year olds produced two major achievements: a book, Australians - the people and their stories, published by Simon and Schuster in December 2000, and a third child.
As a freelancer, my human interest and travel articles have been published in numerous Australian newspapers; in magazines including Australian Good Taste, Voyeur (Virgin Airlines), Caravan and Motorhome, Holidays with Kids, On the Road, New Idea and for The Associated Press of America.
From 2002 - 2010, I worked as a senior journalist with a communication and marketing company, where among servicing a range of clients, I specialised in tourism promotion for New England North West Tourism and Lismore Council in NSW. My articles, media releases and content generated for these clients were published in a wide range of outlets, including The Newcastle Herald, the NRMA Travel website, The New Zealand Herald, Caravan World magazine, Blue's Country magazine and Coast & Country magazine.
I was a sessional tutor in two subjects - Newswriting & Ethics; and Media Relations - at Griffith University from 2008 to 2010.
Since 2010, I have been a Public Relations Strategist and Account Officer for City of Gold Coast's (Council) Corporate Communication branch. This role involves the development and implementation of communication and marketing plans and initiatives, issues management, branding, website content creation, corporate publications, internal communications, media management, reputation management and support for the development and implementation of corporate communication across the organisation.
